The aether is mysterious. The ancient Greek personified the clear upper air of the sky as the aether. It was also the medium supposed by the ancients to fill the upper regions of space. In physics, it is a hypothetical substance supposed to occupy all space, postulated to account for the propagation of electromagnetic radiation through space. There is little information to tell us what it looks like. Or how it behaves. These modest paintings imagine what we don't know about the aether: how it moves, what it imagines, possibly where it is.

This painting was produced on yupo paper, a polypropylene material. An initial layer of Venetian plaster is sealed, and thin, fluid layers of mica paint create the surface of the painting. After it is mounted on sealed 4-ply mat board, a thin gold ring is added. This signifies the sacred quality of all energy.
