It can be argued if the Cave of Knowing is an actual place. Of course it is: each of us have a place of knowing that is deep within. We access this place at various points in our lives: sometimes we are shocked into connecting with it. Sometimes it bubbles up as a natural solution to a vexing problem. At other times, we access it through wise people we are associated with. This work is in honor of my friend Richard, who has been a nurturing presence in my intellectual and imaginative life. He has so often opened the Cave of Knowing for access to not just myself, but others in delightful conversation.

Made with mica, oil paint, Venetian plaster, 23k gold on yupo, mounted on a panel, .5" thick, this painting is physically round.
