This artwork is physically round: it is 1.5"deep. Canvas is stretched on a wooden frame: the canvas is lined with stiff cardboard to safeguard against cracking of the surface. The work was created during a transitional period. I had learned to gild with precious metals: this piece remained unfinished as I embraced the dynamic surfaces of gilding. It was completed years later, as I added the gilded circle. It is a significant piece in that it incorporates paint that is itself dynamic, with an abstracted style and the selectively gilded area.
