A completely different kind of light is present when the sun has set, or is about to rise. It has a subtle dynamic in that it slowly changes. Being with any copse of trees at dusk is a special experience. The trees themselves settle into the dimness. Their forms change, sometimes becoming bigger as less light erases clarity in their forms. To play with a close range of tones while describing a form with paint provides a particular excitement. Like the conditions of the descending night (or ascending day) the close tones in the paint hum a little, together.

Dusk is a mysterious time of day: it offers a richness of subtlety and change as the light slowly leaves.
